Did You Know That

Your Pet Can Also Benefit from Camelina Oil?

Cold-pressed camelina oil maintains its beneficial nutrients, including omega-3-6-9 fatty acids and vitamin E, which can benefit your pet in many ways:

Camelina oil provides up to 38% of omega-3s, the essential fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties that could help reduce swelling. Since joint pain and stiffness are common conditions among older dogs, adding camelina oil to your pet’s diet could help to soothe its discomfort and there is no need for fish oil supplementation.

Although omega-6s play an important role in supporting normal growth and development of the brain, skin, hair, bone and reproductive system, excessive intake of omega-6 and insufficient omega-3 could trigger chronic inflammation, which is associated with obesity, diabetes, cancer and other diseases. Do take note of the omega-6s to omega-3s ratio when purchasing pet foods. Opt for those that are high in omega-3s, but low in omega-6s.

Camelina oil contains twice the amount of omega-3s than omega-6s. It is a perfect complement to pet foods, which are often high in omega-6s. Vegetable oils, such as corn oil, soybean oil and sunflower oil are high in omega-6s, avoid foods that contain any of these oils in their ingredients.

Omega-9s benefits the heart, brain, immune system and overall well-being. However, deficiency in omega-3s and omega-6s can affect the pet’s ability to produce sufficient omega-9s. When this happens, omega-9s become essential and it has to be obtained from dietary source. Camelina oil provides a healthy amount of omega-9s to support your pet’s health.

Vitamin E

Naturally occurring vitamin E in camelina oil helps prevent the oil from oxidising and turning rancid so it has a longer shelf life. For your pet, the antioxidant effects of vitamin E helps prevent free radical induced tissue damage, improve immunity, support vision health and reduce the risk of heart disease, joint problems and cancer.

The recommended dosage of camelina oil for pets (particularly dogs and cats):

  • Teacup-sized pets: 18 to 14 teaspoon daily
  •  Small-sized pets: 12 to 1 teaspoon daily
  • Medium-sized pets: 1 12 to 2 teaspoons daily
  • Large-sized pets: 2 12 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon daily
  • Large dog breed like Great Dane: 1 12 to 2 tablespoons daily

Adding camelina oil to your pet’s diet helps keep it healthy

1. Reduce itchy skin, dandruff, swelling and inflammation due to allergies

2. Promote shiny & healthy hair, reduce hair loss (i.e. fewer hair balls for cats)

3. Reduce joint pain and stiffness for better joint mobility

4. Strengthen immunity and physical fitness

5. Regulate blood pressure and blood lipids, promote cardiovascular health

6. Support healthy brain and eye development, especially in puppies and kittens. Giving camelina oil to pregnant pets can also benefit the babies as well.
